A Revolutionary Table Design with Adjustable Top and Multifunctional Accessories

Athanasia Leivaditou's design stands out for its unique properties. Unlike conventional tables with a fixed surface for serving accessories, this table's components serve dual purposes - as both the surface and the serving accessories. The surface can be adjusted to different shapes, materials, textures, and colors, catering to diverse dining needs. The result is a dynamic dining table that transforms from a flat surface to a curvy one, changing its "topology" based on different functions and needs.

The realization of this design involves a supporting system (legs) and an adjustable horizontal grid where the surface elements are placed. The grid can change its subdivisions, creating different gaps where accessories of varying sizes can be adjusted. The plates and adjusting accessories can come in different colors and textures and can vary between four dimensions based on the grid. The accessories are made of plexiglass for easier experimentation.

Not only does this design offer flexibility, but it also provides a sense of minimalism. For instance, when used as a vase, only the flowers are visible over the table. The plates and adjusting accessories can be washed in the washing machine like regular plates. They can also serve other functions such as decoration, vases, decoration platters, laptop bases, etc.

The table's dimensions in the prototype are 2.10x1.00 (m). The design transforms a traditional dining table into a dynamic centerpiece through its continual rearrangement of curved accessories. The sense that you experience is that you eat on the table itself.

The design's unique and innovative approach has earned it the Golden A' Furniture Design Award in 2013.
